Exposing the Children to the Hair Industry

Today was an exciting and positive day ! I have the great opportunity to escort my children from my Skills USA club at Lucy C. Laney to the World famous Bronner Brothers Hair Show in Atlanta. I want to express my feelings as both a teacher and a industry stylist. This was a very heart -felt experience for the children ,many of the children from my area have never had the chance to travel to Atlanta at all , more less experience a World renowned Hair Show. It was a trip of a lifetime that was both enlightening and awesome. We started this journey at 8:30am from Augusta until we arrived back from Atlanta 8:30pm . Now all i can say is its time for Bed and the all -day excursion with my children was GREAT !!!
I Love TEACHING !

  1. Blessings to you Selina! "Exposure is the precursor to education" I always say. This trip alone has ignited a desire to learn more and do more in your students. Nothing like a trip to real world to get your point/lesson across. Keep up the great work and get some rest!

  2. Hi Selina,

Great post! I understand 100% the sentiments that you describe in your post. On Friday, we made the journey to the CDC to broaden students minds and put an identity to some letters studied in a book. The most amazing thing is that each time I've taken a student group to the CDC there has been 1-2 students that begin to feel light-headed and queasy. Many of the students leave with a new sense of inquiry, while others are simply amazed that we have access to an organization the magnitude of the CDC here at our disposal. All in all, I love the concept of expanding the classroom beyond four walls to reach the intellect of our student population. Guess what----I share your love for teaching!

  3. Hi, Selina - what a great day that must have been, and thanks for sharing. It is amazing what great influence educational trips have on your students. In a time of decreasing funding for such, it is really satisfying to hear how meaningful yours was. Keep after it!

  4. Wow! Selina Selina this was an awesome experience for both you and your students. I can't even begin to imagine how excited they were. Seeing this up close and personal is very eye-opening for them. It really puts things into perspective.
