The most important thing I learned about my students this semester is my kids have the greatest
resiliency for coming back from setbacks in their lives. Most of my kids do not want a pity party they just want you to teach them. The harder the challenge for some, the more they produce if they are prepared. I am expecting great things from a surprising number of them. Hopefully they will not let themselves down.
That is very insightful and good to hear, as I know your students have been behind the eight ball, so to speak. A big motivator to them, I'm sure, is that you expect big things from them, as they have found in you an adult that cares about them and looks after them. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteI think this is one of the most surprising things I have come across this year as well. I have some students that are underprivileged and they seem to be the ones that try the hardest. They may not be the most talented, but they seem to come farther than most. I really appreciate those kids. They make you feel good as a teacher.
