Disrespectful Children

Hi everyone,

I really don't have any complaints this week. I am very excited that we have next week off. I really need the break. This week, we had a fight at school which is nothing new, but the thing that really concerned me was that a student hit a parent in the head with a chair. Can you all believe that? It really bothers me that students have no respect for adults. I talk to my students all the time about respect and some still don't get it. I tried to explain to them that when I was growing up, It was okay for someone else's parents to chastise me. Some of the students thought I was crazy. They absolutely believe that no one else should be able to tell them what to do even if they are wrong. Whatever happen to "It takes a village to raise a child"?

  1. I've said too many times. Many parents just aren't doing thier jobs these days. If we're going to survive it then maybe we need to teach them! I'm not against it! If you're going to sacrifice the quality time needed to teach them respect so you can work then you have to find the time somewhere. Don't have kids if you can parent them. I say the same thing about dogs. If you don't have the time to spend with them then don't buy one.

  2. I agree with you totally. Yesterday several students acted up in class by yelling at the other teacher who I taught with. I just couldn't take it and gave them a speech on respecting elders. They got real quiet and thought about what I said and maybe it sank into their heads.

  3. I agree with you. If my father had found out I didn't show respect to an adult he would have beat me to kingdom come. In the classroom I turn the disrespectful comment around. I ask them what would they do if a student talked that way to their mother or father. They usually defend their parents. Then I tell them I am someone's father. Six children and some of their friends call me "dad".
