That is the biggest thing to keep. ...DOCUMENTATION. That is the biggest thing to keep. Parents are responsible for their kids. I would notify the school board if the problem persists and nothing is being done about it. When the parent get arrested for the students truency they will either withdraw or youll see them in class. I garenteeeee it. I do agree that the system has gotten very lax on enforcing policy especially with truancy. My opinion they should arrest these students and make the parents have to come to school with them after three days and not wait until five or even ten or more days when the child is failing and really nothing is being done about it. I hate that helpless feeling of nothing doing on the admin side and we have to find a way to assess these truant students and deal with parents who don't have control of their kids. Then again you cant help them all and you have to focus you attention on the students you do have and let the system take care of the rest if life doesen't do it first.Dallas,Jhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13538280046256806654noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3725285395319049030.post-77495462506202041002008-11-13T10:45:00.000-05:002008-11-13T10:45:00.000-05:00Hi, Leonard - if the parent cannot or will not hel...Hi, Leonard - if the parent cannot or will not help you just have to make sure he/she knows the situation with their child and be frank with the parents that their child will fail unless they come to school and do makeup for missed days.

Your admin should also be following up on this as surely other teachers are experiencing the same thing. Truant officers should be notified, and in some systems (or is it statewide?) parents can be required to come to class if their children are not.

Make sure you document your contacts with parents so when the child fails, they will not be able to override it by saying they did not know - especially is that child is a senior! Keep on with the parental contact - in most cases it really helps.Dr. Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13343227079228308132noreply@blogger.com
