A Word to the Wise

This week I had seniors. Some are getting ready for college and some are getting ready for the real world. We had a little down time right before the bell rang. One of the students asked, "Ms. Davis, what do you do besides subbing?" I replied, "I'm a hair salon owner." She then went on to ask, "What do you recommend for us Seniors that are about to go into the real world and achieving our goals?" I thought that was a great question from a student because you rarely find a younger person that is interested in what the teacher has to say. I let them know that they can do whatever they set their minds to. It's about believing in themselves and knowing that noone can take that belief from them. That short time frame kind of made my day to know that a student actually listened and care enough to hear my opinion.

  1. I wish I had someone as a senior in high school to guide me, especially an entrepreneur who could give me same sound business advice (those credit card companies that hung out on campus would never have gotten my attention). I hope that my story is one that inspires others just like you are doing with your story.

  2. I like those moments when someone asks a question and you can really tell that they really want to know what you have to say. I try to be honest and let them know what it took for me to be where I am today. I had a great teacher in high school that was a real role model for me and it made me want to be just like her. A Cosmetology teacher! Just like my Classroom Procedures...#7 says: Say..."Yes I can!" I also tell them...."Can't, Can't never could and won't never will." Now when someone in class says that they can't do something, someone always corrects them and quotes me. :)
