NTI Techniques

The year started out busy but techniques gained from NTI has made a big impact on how I deal with some of the challenges. One of the first techniques that was implemented was the in box for assignments. This has made keeping up with students completed assignments much easier. The use of the parking lot helps me keep track of what has been done in various classes. Also, it is helpful when students inform me that I did not tell them some important piece of information. I have been able to take them to the parking lot, where the information is written.

One of my weak areas is classroom management. The use of circulating around the classroom has helped. The use of proximity and getting to know the students personally has improved this area. "This is still a working area, but I am hopeful."

One of the NTI classroom procedures was "Have a open mind to new Ideas". This has helped me view the classroom differently. By having a open mind it is a little easier for me to try new ideas and techniques in the classroom. One last comment, the "Take five" ideas are great and the students have enjoyed the change of pace they provide. Oh, lesson plans.. still a lemon, will continue to try to make them lemonade. Freda

  1. Freda,
Please remember to remind the students that you are there to help them. I know that you are a quiet kind of teacher with your students best interest at heart, say a firm bequiet and have a seat. Put the talkers to work. Have them hand out papers, or books, remind your upper class student that they set the tone for the underclass student and that they are watching them, even allow them to tell the freshmen what they should do to keep their GPA
up before they get to their senior year, and what not to do. Take charge and give your seniors some leadership responsibility or who ever it is that gets in the way. Stand up and be the great teacher that you are.
