RUBRIC
Rubric Rubric, Rubric, that’s all I would hear as last year first started. What’s a Rubric? Is the person having trouble speaking? Rubric this and Rubric that. I never saw one just heard about them. I guess next there will have one on how to use the restroom. NTI has taught me the value of the RUBRIC. I still don’t like the name but I do like what it does for you. Now we are in that part of the NTI where we are talking about rating scales and score cards I have learned to love the application of the RUBRIC, still don’t like the word! Why can’t we call it something else? The “Dr. J” the “Dr. M” how about the “Ms Chillis” anything but a “RUBRIC”. Please NTI class develop a new word, we can call it the word from NTI Summer 2009. If you can come up with a “Strawberry Hamburger” or whatever it was you can rename the RUBRIC. Regardless what you call them, they do work .
I totally agree with the rubric. I mentioned in my post that there was more than one or two things. I would have to say the third would definitely be the rubric. It is not only great for me. But it is easier for the students to understand how they will be graded. I think too many times last year I just went on my idea of how the project should be graded. It is nice now to have it all written out so it gives an exact understanding of what is in my head before the assignment is given. I know you said that you do not like the name rubric, but I am sure we could think of some names that would be a whole lot worse.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Scott, I wish I had known how to make rubrics as well. Coming from industry, of course we did not take classes prior to NTI that would help us with teaching. I also shared that I wish I had known how to make lesson plans. I also lacked classroom management skills. Thanks to NTI, I have learned alot about these things. I also look forward to learning other helpful tools. NTI has proven to me to be successful and necessary.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. Rubrics have saved me more than once this year. My students have started asking..."Mrs. Robinson, when are we getting the rubric for this assignment??" They really like them, because it spells out exactly what I expect from them.
