What its all about!

Let me start off by saying I have a wonderful group of kids! For the most part they are respectful, kind, and hardworking. Grant it, I have some that are the complete opposite but I try not to concentrate on that. Dr. M came and observed me this week. Wow, how scary was this! I don't think I have ever been so nervous! My students could tell that I was extremely nervous and they tried so hard to calm my nerves. The class he was coming to decided they wanted to make him and "Welcome Sign". They worked really hard on this. I try to teach them, that in the Cosmetology field we must do everything in our power to make our clients feel welcome and comfortable. Not only did they make him a sign, they make him coffee! I was so surprised at their generosity. I think he was a little surprised too! I asked one of my students why they were doing all this and she said, " Dr. M is like one of our clients and we want him to feel welcome, just like you have taught us!" Another said, "Ms. Ransom just be yourself! You are a great teacher and he will love you!" I must admit this was huge for me. Sometimes I think I get caught up in being so young and being a high school teacher, but this showed me I am doing something right. One of the things Dr. M mentioned was how much he could tell that the students loved having me for a teacher! This made me feel so wonderful! I thought after I left that day, this is what it is all about!

  1. This is so cool! I'm glad your observation went well. It's nice to hear the kids say something nice about you. I always tend to overhear students mouth off about other teachers, and it makes me wonder what they think of me. Little comments like your student made definitely help keep you on the right path of thinking positive about the career you've chosen. This job can seem so fickle...but when you break it down into those small daily victories, it is the most rewarding. Your stories about your students are so nice! You must teach the sweetest kids ever.

  3. Hi, Randi - yes, your students made me feel very welcome, and, as a client, I would come back to your salon! Your connection with your students allows you to get the most out of them, so keep challenging them to perform at higher and higher levels!
