"Open Mic" is a great topic for me this week, as I am going to reflect on a conversation my team teacher and I had the other day. That's right, my team teacher is back, which grants me a bit of a planning period - more to come once she is totally caught up with what is going on and takes over her class completely. So, back to Open Mic...my class is fun. My kids are fun. We laugh. My team teacher and I, along with some of our students, were talking about some old rap songs in preparation for a music video project. I mentioned how our class is the only classroom in the building where "Outkast" or "Slick Rick" could be the legitimate answer to a question. Haha! Today I will try and write some higher level questions to how the No Limit movement changed the music video scene.... :)
The worst day at school is never as bad as the TV station. I get paid more. I work less. I meet the most interesting students and teachers. I like, love, enjoy my job. Life is good.
I use to do shows with Slick Rick, Run DMC yes I was a rapper back in the day.I had one album out did shows with salt and Pepa and MC hammer. I have pics and posters I even have a old song on google but I will never tell the song. My daughter found the song and put it on her my space page. LOL LOL that should be a fun project. You can use that to teach the students maybe they will learn something good.
ReplyDeleteI'm not believing what I'm reading here. Not only am I smiling about Bruce's post, but Zelda . . . ?! How come I did not see you bustamove when I observed your class . . . talk about a set induction! Great posts and comments, and, yes, isn't learning more fun when it is fun?
ReplyDeleteMan I feel you Bruce. When all things are clicking at school I'm in the greatest mood. Although I will say I've never worked harder in my life, but that's only because I want to make it the best I can. Plus you and I both know that our workloads were slightly different back in the day. You would edit, and I would play on the internet! One thing I do miss about the station is the adrenaline rush of a production. I do the best I can to introduce that high pressure, tense environment to the students. First of all it's important to learn how to operate under those circumstances, and secondly...it's just plain old fun.
