Progression as a Teacher
The weeks fly by so quickly I can hardly remember good or bad, days just are and that is fine with me. I think that is a positive thing because I don't dwell on the stressful aspects and disappointments of teaching like I did last year. I feel more comfortable with processes and procedures, the paperwork administration expects you to keep up with, and the constant change in how the school runs. I also enjoy knowing my students better and having a better understanding of what the nature of a teenager is. These positive are due to the great information I have been receiving in NTI. I am constantly getting better at lesson planning and adding variety to my lesson plans. I am constantly seeking different ways to present lecture material in a way other than lecture. NTI has opening my eyes to the many differnt ways and this has made me grow every day as a teacher. Just being comfortable and confident is as much as I can ask for in my second year of teaching. I hope that I am doing a good and beneficial job for my students. I think I am because occasionally I do get a comment from a student or two who say "you are a good teacher Mrs. Barbour".
I am also starting to get to the point where I'm forgetting how bad last year really was. I thought my second year teaching was the hardest. Supposedly, from what I've heard, if you make it through your third year teaching.... you're a "lifer". I don't know about that, being a CTAE Instructor. There's so much technology going on out there that is advancing in automotive. How can CTAE teacher's really keep up with new equipment and practices/procedures. I also have been lecturing a little differently than last year. My lectures are much shorter, and more "to the point". I thought they were "to the point" last year, I suppose I was wrong. Several of the other teachers at school are coming up to me and telling me that my "auto boys" can't stop talking about Ms. Strommen's class! That was really exciting for me.
