When designing an Elluminate Live course, I would carefully consider the target audience or student population and perform a needs assessment to determine the overall design of the course and the objectives. The activities would include whole group and small group assignments using the some instructional strategies learned in NTI. In the Health care Science classes, Elluminate Live can be used to delivery the theory using power point presentations before mandatory on site lab experiences.
Truthfully, I would use the same design that Dr. Burns is currently introducing to us in this course. Everything is going well with our class now that we are more comfortable with the technology. Being a participant in this class and experiencing Elluminate Live really helps feel up to date with technology. This experience is also an excellent conversation "piece" when talking with friends.
Brenda,
ReplyDeleteBrenda,
Content and objective is certainly a major thing to consider when designing the Elluminate class. It is certainly important to know how deliverable the content of your material as well as the learning styles of the recipients’. With larger classes, it would be beneficial using something like Elluminate. There would definitely be less interruption and speaking out. There are a lot of considerations to allow when designing the program. I wonder how many more students, which depend on us to keep them focused, would have a tendency to lay there head down. For those that are self motivated it is an excellent way to learn, allowing for time and transportation efficiency.
Thanks,
Ron
I agree with you Brenda....teaching information before lab will be the best bet for this type of class instruction. But we all know the attention span is basically 15 minutes so how do you know if someone is simply ignoring you while you are instructing class. Some may even be bold enough to just take off the headphones and walk away with out letting the instructor know they have stepped away. Its so many factors that can be considered when choosing this method. FOr adults I think it great becasue it allows people with various schedules to come together for class and all be in various places.
ReplyDeleteIt could also be better way to control classroom manangement, class clowns. Since we can't see each other you have less class distractions and your instructor has the control over who speaks, so everyone is not yelling out the answers all at once.
You also have to be motivated,to complete all assignments, you don't have your instructor walking around keeping you on task. You have to have the motivation to do what you are suppose to do!!!!
Brenda,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the fact that Elluminate live could be used to transfer theory knowledge to the students and that once the theory is over it loses its need in the CTE classroom.
Hi, Brenda - your post elicited thoughtful responses from your classmates. I am intriqued by the 'conversation piece' you mentioned . . . have any of your friends had the Elluminate experience, or are you enticing them with your tales? You go, girl!
