Open Microphone
One of the activities that I have done with my level 4 class is to produce the "teacher of the week" show. The students choose a teacher to profile on the news for the week. This is a great way to promote teacher appreciation among the students. The teacher is interviewed and shown on the weekly news. Students, other teachers and staff get to know new and veteran teachers alike. It is a more personal way to get to know that teacher's interests, and their educational background. This is a way for teachers to feel important and it gives them a "lift" in their work week. It has been a positive assignment all the way around. The difficulty comes with being consistent in getting the story completed each week. If there is a short week or a week that is busy such as homecoming week, it seems the story does not get produced. Sometimes the students are not responsible in getting the job done. The lack of discipline with being consistent is a problem with students in general. Any suggestions in this area would be considered. Thanks.
Hi, Lori - what a great idea and the benefits are many for both students and teachers. For the short weeks you may want to just suspend the activity until the next full week to give everyone a fair shake at it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, do you have a rubric that has time limits for the various activites in the producion of the clip? You may also want to use students who have already been successful at this project, assuming you are rotating them, to peer coach the next round of students so they know what to expect and stay on time.
