Documentary
I'm going to try something new with one of my lessons in about 2 weeks and would like some input from my NTI class friends. Students will be studying cultural diversity and as an end product I would like for them to make a documentary on their particular culture and the needs of the people within the culture. Students will be required to include family, religion, social, nutritional, medical, etc. in their project. Video production really intrigues me and the students enjoy watching themselves so I thought this would work well together. Students will work in groups so I will be able to include some of the stratagies that I have learned this semester, but what should I look for in their video. I can make a rubric, but I'm sure that I will find that I leave out some key elements for production and/or grading. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

ReplyDeleteThis is such an innovative idea. I love it. I'm not techno-savy so I would probably not be the best person insight from, but I'll give it a try.
When thinking of this particular assignment, professionalism, creativity, time requirements (min/max), and preferred technology format are a few things that come to mind. Maybe you can require students to have a certain number of interviews from career related professionals (at least one or two) or maybe they have a self reflection monologue.
You could always teach them to have a set induction and transfer in/out like we do in NTI.
Another idea is make the video interactive to engage the audience. For example while the student, while in the video, can serve as the facilitator and conduct a survey at some point. The student can pass out two different colors of index cards prior to starting the video. When they get to that section of the clip, students could hold up one color to "agree" or the other to "disagree" during the survey portion.
I hope this informative and helps with your creative juices. You are so good at creating projects to get students thinking on a higher level of Bloom's! Way to go!
