What Surprised Me Most.
Hello Everyone, What surprised me most is how many personalaties there are in our students, and how one class can differ from another. I am constantly surprised by my students from one day to the next. One day talkative in class to model student. My classroom's may even change, though I had already thought I had that (personality) down. I find that it is not as easy to (label) our students as one might think. This one is model, this one could care less, etc. Our students are as complicated as we are, and should not be deminished by a one, two, three size fits all mold. Everyone has a purpose and ours is to try to mold. I hope I never loose my energy for this purpose, and never find myself judgemental to others. This has to be a calling or we would be crazy to do it. The hours spent are worth it if our resolve does not falter.
Hey Ken.
ReplyDeleteClassroom personalities make the day interesting. I have 3 classes that are the same so I teach the same lessons. But, because each class has their own personality I have to teach each class differently. One may respond to more lecture type instruction where another class responds better to group discussion or demos. I really like this because it makes the day better and allows me to make notes for the future on how to teach the same lesson in a variety of methods.
Hello Ken.
ReplyDeleteI am also amazed by the variation in the way a class responds to an activity. It is based on the personality chemistry among the students. I could be doing the same lesson in all of my classes, but it will work differently in each of them. I am constantly trying to come up with ways to reach various learners. I have to remind myself all of the time that everyone is not like me, doesn't think like me, and doesn't learn like me. This helps me to create variation.
Ken,
ReplyDeleteYour blog was inspirational. I know you want lose your energy or become Judgemental.
The students evolving, growing and changing daily. Hopefully we can all provid a ray of light that will benefit our students as they grow and mature in their choices.
Wishing you the best

ReplyDeleteI agree have been teaching for 3 years. Students have a wide variety of personality. It's amazing to me how three or four students can make your class periods good or bad the students can change the whole classroom personality, but you still have to enjoy the ride, eventually they fall in line to the overall class.
