student arrested

Had a student arrested for writing gang graffiti on the bathroom wall. He just turned eighteen I here he is going to be in real trouble. The detective told me he would be charged with some kind of gang laws in addition to destruction of property. Can any of you public safety people give me some info on these gang laws. I need to make my students aware of the consequences of gang activity.
Thanks
jj

  1. I'm sure the public safety experts will have good advice for you. Is this student who has been arrested special needs? I wonder if he even fully understood the potential consequences of his actions.

  2. do a google search for OCGA (that stands for official code of georgia annotated) Title 16 Chapter 15 is the georgia street gang and terrorism prevention act. There are only a few code sections for that chapter if you want to go over them with your class. i never really worked an area that had a bad gang problem but here is how i interpret the statute.. grafati will be criminal tresspass or damage depending on the dollar amount of damage done..he will be tried for that..the punishment for the street gang is in addition to the tresspass/damage..the penalty for the street gant is no less than 5 years in jail and no more than 15..hope that helps
